How unlocking worked in 2K21: you earned badge points through play and spent them on upgrades. Bronze cost 1 point, Silver 2, Gold 3 and Hall of Fame 4. Archetypes on small and medium wedges of the creation pie chart could only upgrade badges to Gold, while large and giant wedges could reach Hall of Fame.
